Profile of a Successful farmer: Shri.Jokut Modi from East Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh

American Statesman Daniel Webster said, 'When tillage begins, other arts follow. The farmers, therefore, are the founders of human civilization'. The farmers are one of the most important members of the society. Their labour feed the world and their successes usher in economic wellbeing for all.  

The State of Arunachal Pradesh has many successful farmers, who with their absolute dedication and hard work have brought prosperity for themselves and their families but also to their villages and State. One of the progressive farmers is Shri Jokut Modi, Age: 74 years, Village: Napit, East Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh (Phone: 9862348243).

Shri Jokut Modi, from Napit Village in East Siang District is one of the exemplary progressive farmers of the State. Through his sheer determination and dedicated efforts, Shri Modi could able to provide best of education to his eight children. One of his daughters is pursuing higher studies in Oxford University, United Kingdom. Two of his daughters are serving abroad in Australia, Switzerland. 

Shri Modi practices integrated farming in his approximately 99 acres of farm land. Besides growing of field crops like rice, Maize, millet, in large quantity he also grows horticultural crops like pineapple, banana, ginger, turmeric and oranges. He has recently started pulses cultivation in large scale. He has three tractors, two power tillers and one rotary tiller in addition to twenty-five cattle including eight pairs of bulls for tilling.

During 2016-17, Shri Modi has started large cardamom cultivation in Peki Modi area of Upper Siang District. Sharing the difficulties due to lack of road connectivity from Mariyang to Peki Modi, he said that road in interior areas will immensely help in the transportation of the farm produces. 

Shri Modi's net annual income from farming operation is about Rs.12.00 lakh.
