Papaya (Carica papaya) is a recently introduced crop for the local farmers of Anjaw District in Arunachal Pradesh. Till its introduction under ATMA Farm School programme, Papaya was a rare, laser-known crop for the locals of the District and was not commonly cultivated. Considering the suitability of crop, initiatives were taken under ATMA Farm School programmes and attempts were made to encourage large scale cultivation papaya. Commercial variety of papaya -Honey dew was introduced in the district. Sri. Khasa Gam - a local farmer of Tafraliang village under Hayuliang Circle was selected as an achiever farmer and was assisted with seed, organic manure, poly-sheets and other farm inputs for development of a nursery. Ready to plant Papaya seedlings were raised in poly packs in the nursery under ATMA Farm School.

More than a lakh seedlings were raised and distributed in almost all the villages under Hayuliang Circle. This initiative has made papaya a potential crop and has become widely popular among the villagers.
